Femoral component wear in retrieved hip prostheses.
We retrieved 159 femoral heads at revision surgery to determine changes in surface configuration. Macroscopic wear of the head was observed in three bipolar hip prostheses as a result of three-body wear. There was a considerable change in surface roughness in the internal articulation of bipolar hip prostheses. Roughness in alumina heads was almost the same as that in new cobalt-chromium heads....
متن کاملNew Challenges in Tribology: Wear Assessment Using 3D Optical Scanners
Wear is a significant mechanical and clinical problem. To acquire further knowledge on the tribological phenomena that involve freeform mechanical components or medical prostheses, wear tests are performed on biomedical and industrial materials in order to solve or reduce failures or malfunctions due to material loss. Scientific and technological advances in the field of optical scanning allow ...
متن کاملWear Distribution Detection of Knee Joint Prostheses by Means of 3D Optical Scanners
The objective of this study was to examine total knee polyethylene inserts from in vitro simulation to evaluate and display-using a 3D optical scanner-wear patterns and wear rates of inserts exposed to wear by means of simulators. Various sets of tibial inserts have been reconstructed by using optical scanners. With this in mind, the wear behavior of fixed and mobile bearing polyethylene knee c...
متن کاملFeature Extraction of the Wear Label of Carpets by Using a Novel 3D Scanner
In this paper we present a novel 3D scanner to capture the texture characteristics of worn carpets into images of the depth. We first compare our proposed scanner to a Metris scanner previously attempted for this application. Then, we scan the surface of samples from the standard EN1471 using our proposed scanner. We found that our proposed scanner offers additional benefits because it has been...
متن کامل3D Scanner using Kinect
In this report, we describe, justify and assess the quality of our design for a 3D scanner using Microsoft Kinect. A 3D model of an object can be obtained by taking both color and depth images from different viewpoints. We developed a streamline and a novel combination algorithm for this task. In the process, we had to solve problems involving noise, miss-alignment between color and depth, comb...
